What is an allergy? Allergies are medical conditions, which make us feel ill when we eat or come in contact with a particular substance that our body does not accept. An allergy occurs when a person’s immune system reacts to a substance in the environment, which is harmless to most people. These substances are known as ‘allergens’ and are present everywhere in the atmosphere, in pets, insects, pollen grains, foods & sometimes medicines

COMMON SYMPTOMS

• Itchiness of the eyes and bod •Headache •Fever

• Swelling of face and lips •Runny nose •Fatigue

• Coughing and sneezing •Nausea •Breathing difficulty

• Skin rash •Diarrhea

If the allergen is something you breathe in, the reaction will most likely affect your lungs, nose, and eyes. If the allergen is something you ate, it can affect your mouth, stomach, and intestines. Allergies can be seasonal and can worsen during a certain time of the year, like pollen grain allergies in spring.

How will you know what type of allergy will affect you?

The most common method doctors use to identify which allergy you have is by a skin test (by scratching or by injecting). This way the doctor can observe your body’s reaction to different allergies.

In very rare cases, an allergy can lead to a severe allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock, which can be life-threatening. It affects the whole body and usually develops within a few minutes of exposure.

QUICK HOME REMEDIES

• Honey Eating honey every day improves your immune system.

• Hot shower: Taking a hot shower after coming back home removes all the allergens which may have entered your system while you were outside.

• Steam: Inhaling steam can flush out mucus, moisten the dry nasal passage and remove any allergen you have inhaled.

• Spicy food: The sinus-clearing effects of spicy foods like chili hot peppers mustard and fresh garlic can definitely start your eyes watering and open your nasal passages so that the allergen is removed.

• Eucalyptus oil: The strong smell of eucalyptus oil can supercharge steam inhalation, helping to open your sinuses and nasal passages. Some research suggests that eucalyptus oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Add a few drops of oil to a bowl of steaming water or to the floor of the shower before you step in. Do not swallow the oil or apply it directly to your skin, It Is toxic in concentrated amounts

• Green tea: Green tea contains methylated epigallocatechin gallate, which has antioxidant properties that can reduce allergic reactions. But it may not necessarily give 100% results, just some relief

FUN FACTS: STRANGE ALLERGIES YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OF!
