Diabetes

According to a survey by the International Diabetes Federation, 463 million people worldwide have diabetes. 79% of them are from poor or developing countries. Diabetes is found in 66 per thousand more in black people than white people.

'Risk factors' for diabetes

Among the things that increase a person’s risk of developing diabetes, a person with insomnia is 17 percent more likely to develop diabetes. In addition, depression, smoking, high blood pressure, constant tea-coffee consumption, childhood and old age obesity, excess body fat, increased body fat. Four types of saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in the blood, levels of amino acids like valine, leucine, alanine aminotransferase and other digestive substances that increase liver function are also ‘risk factors’.

There are two types of diabetes. In type 1, insulin, which is naturally produced in the pancreas, becomes insufficient or not produced at all. In type 2, the cells in the body develop resistance to insulin. In both cases, the blood sugar level rises above the normal level, But it is not absorbed inside the cells of the body, so the sugar required for energy and numerous metabolic activities in the body is not available to the body. In short, in diabetes the cells are swimming in a sea of sugar; But they go hungry without sugar.

The risk factors for type 2 diabetes which is commonly found in Indians include excessive alcohol consumption, avoidance of breakfast, daytime sleepiness, anxiety, urinary sodium salts, certain amino acids, inflammation of the body, and insomnia. A research paper published on September 8, 2020, in the medical journal Diabetes, has identified 19 new “risk factors” for diabetes, while 21 cases show little evidence. At the same time, it has been mentioned that 15 ingredients are used to prevent diabetes.

Research has shown that the following factors are useful in preventing diabetes. Among them, alanine is an amino acid called good cholesterol, which means low-density lipoprotein, low total cholesterol, age of onset of menstruation in young girls, testosterone levels in men, weight at birth, height in adolescence, and body fat in women. Fatty acids & vitamin D levels.

Medical science is advancing very fast. Medicine is constantly moving forward with many new diseases that are not known today, new treatments for previous diseases, new drugs, equipment, new types of tests, innumerable new researches.

India has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world. Therefore, national diabetes prevention programs such as weight control, smoking cessation, maintaining good mental health, sleeping regularly and only at night, limiting the weight of the baby at birth, and, most importantly, promoting awareness about the diabetes is very crucial to contain the spread of the disease.
