Itches and rashes are common in summer, but if the rashes are filled with pus and spread to the rest of the body, you should be worried. A common disease in the summer is chickenpox and we should be aware of it.
Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease, caused by primary infection with the Varicella Zoster Virus. It is airborne and spreads easily through coughing or sneezing or through direct contact with secretions from the rash. A person with chickenpox contracts the infection 1-2 days before the rash appears and remains contagious until all the lesions have crusted over.
Doctors say if an adult contracts the disease, it usually lasts longer and is more severe. However, the good thing is that if you get the disease once, you can’t get it again. This happens because the body manufactures antibodies against the virus and prevents it from occurring again
* Do not scratch the rashes – It can cause severe skin infections. Moreover, the pus that oozes out from the rash can spread the infection to others.
* Take adequate rest, do not overexert excess activity delays the recovery process by weakening the immune system.
* Stay away from other people. Chickenpox pox is highly contagious.
* Cut your nails to avoid scratching. Wear socks on the hands at night to avoid scratching while asleep.
* Have a bath in warm water infused with “neem” leaves in warm water and stroke the rashes.
* Consult your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms like breathlessness or a very high fever.
