Protect yourself from Swine Flu

Swine flu, also know as H1N1 type influenza, is actually a human disease. It was originally nicknamed ‘ Swine flu’ because the virus that causes the disease jumped from pigs to humans. Influenza is a viral infection that attacks the respiratory system – the nose, throat, and lungs. The virus spreads from one person to another through droplets in the air when someone who is sick coughs, sneezes, or talks. Or it can spread by hand contact by sharing contaminated objects, such as towers telephones, computer mouse or keyboard. People with weak immune systems are at a higher risk of developing the flu.

Symptoms

H1N1 or swine flu influenza is characterized by fever, sore throat, body ache, and respiratory problems like difficulty in breathing. In most cases, the symptoms are mild and subside within a few days. People with difficulty breathing, drowsiness, or blood in the sputum must consult a doctor immediately.

Swine Flu/ H1N1 Prevention Tips

* Wash your hands thoroughly; frequent hand-washing is the best way to prevent many common Infections. Carry hand sanitizers if soap and water aren’t readily available.

* Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. To avoid contaminating your hands, cough or sneeze into a tissue or a handkerchief.

* Get enough sleep – 8 hours of rest each night will keep your immune system strong.

• Stay hydrated; drink 8-10 glasses of water every day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses.

• Be physically active. A brisk walk for 30-40 minutes, 3 times a week, boosts the immune system by increasing circulation, oxygenating the body, purging toxins through sweat, and releasing tension and stress.

* Avoid alcohol. it makes your body weak and decreases the ability to fight viral infections.

Stay away from sick people. Flu spreads when particles of the virus spread through droplets in the air if the sick person coughs, sneezes, or talks. So stay a few feet away from them and especially avoid any physical contact.
