Phosphorus Test

Individuals with chronic kidney disease, hypoparathyroidism, malabsorption disorders, or who are taking certain medications such as diuretics, proton pump inhibitors, and antacids are at risk of having low or high phosphorus levels and may need to be tested.
Diagnosis: The test is used to diagnose and monitor conditions that affect phosphorus levels in the body such as hypophosphatemia (low phosphorus levels) or hyperphosphatemia (high phosphorus levels).
Reference range: The reference range for phosphorus levels varies depending on the lab that is performing the analysis but generally, the normal range is considered to be between 2.5 and 4.5 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or 0.81 and 1.45 millimoles per liter (mmol/L). However, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for proper interpretation of the results, as other factors such as kidney function, electrolyte imbalances, and medications can affect phosphorus levels.
