Malaria Parasite Test

The Malaria Parasite Test, also known as the Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT), is used to quickly detect the presence of malaria parasites in human blood. This test identifies specific antigens (proteins) released by malaria parasites when they infect red blood cells.

Malaria is caused by parasites of the Plasmodium species and is transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. The most common species detected by rapid tests include:

• Plasmodium falciparum

• Plasmodium vivax

• Plasmodium malariae

• Plasmodium ovale

Some rapid tests can detect multiple species, while others distinguish between falciparum and non-falciparum infections, helping doctors decide appropriate treatment quickly.

The blood sample is usually obtained through a finger-prick or venous blood collection, and the results are available within 15–30 minutes. Early detection through this test plays a critical role in preventing severe complications such as cerebral malaria, anemia, kidney failure, and even death.

• People living in or traveling from malaria-prone regions

• Patients with unexplained sweating and fatigue

• Early screening during outbreaks and monsoon season
