Typhoid Test

The Typhoid Test (Enterocheck Typhoid IgM) is used to assess the presence of IgM antibodies in patients suspected of having typhoid fever. Typhoid fever is an acute, potentially life-threatening illness caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. It may also occur due to Salmonella paratyphi which causes a milder illness.

The bacteria enter the body through contaminated food or water and spread in areas with poor sanitation. Infected individuals can further contaminate water supplies through stool that contains a high concentration of bacteria. Once inside the body, the bacteria multiply and spread through the bloodstream, causing prolonged fever and systemic illness.

The presence of IgM antibodies indicates a recent or active infection, making this test extremely useful for early diagnosis and timely treatment. Early detection helps prevent serious complications such as intestinal bleeding, perforation, and long-term weakness.

This test is commonly recommended for:

• Individuals with persistent fever lasting more than 3 days

• People exposed to contaminated food or water

• Patients with digestive symptoms along with high fever

• Monitoring recovery under medical supervision

This is an antibody-based blood test that detects IgM antibodies specific to Salmonella typhi, indicating recent typhoid infection.
