Dengue NS1 Antigen Test

The Dengue NS1 Antigen Test is designed to detect the presence of the NS1 protein, an antigen released by the dengue virus during active infection. This makes it the preferred diagnostic tool for early dengue detection, especially within the first 24 to 72 hours of fever, when antibody-based tests may still return negative results.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection known for causing a sudden high fever, rash, intense headache, and severe joint and muscle pain—often termed “breakbone fever.” As the NS1 antigen appears early in the bloodstream, detection through this test helps clinicians diagnose the infection promptly and decide the right treatment path.

Unlike IgM or IgG tests, which require several days before antibodies appear, the NS1 test allows confirmation before Day 5 of illness, enabling early medical intervention and reducing the risk of complications like dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome.

This test is highly recommended for individuals experiencing sudden fever in dengue-prone areas, recent mosquito exposure, or symptoms consistent with dengue fever. It is fast, accurate, and does not require fasting.
