Detects IgM-class antibodies produced at the early stage of dengue infection.
The Dengue IgM test is one of the earliest and most important diagnostic tools for identifying a current or recent dengue infection. IgM antibodies are the first to rise after dengue exposure and are typically detectable 7–10 days after symptoms begin.
Because IgM and IgG levels fluctuate during different stages of infection, doctors often consider both tests to determine whether the infection is early, recent, secondary, or past.

The Dengue IgM test is designed to detect IgM antibodies that are produced early in the body’s immune response to a dengue virus infection. IgM levels are typically the first to rise—usually 7 to 10 days after exposure—making this test especially useful for identifying current or recent infections.
IgM levels rise rapidly during the acute phase of dengue, remain elevated for a few weeks, and then gradually decline. In many individuals, IgM becomes undetectable after a few months. A positive IgM result suggests a recent infection, particularly when accompanied by a positive IgG result in the same sample.
When IgG is positive but IgM is negative or low, it commonly indicates a past dengue infection. If IgG levels increase four-fold between two samples taken 2–4 weeks apart, it strongly suggests a recent infection, especially secondary dengue.
A negative IgM and IgG result generally means the person does not have a dengue infection, although very early-stage infections may require retesting.
This test is recommended for patients presenting with dengue-like symptoms, those living in outbreak-prone areas, or individuals needing confirmation of recent exposure. The test is simple, requires no fasting, and provides valuable information for diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
