A parathyroid hormone (PTH) blood test measures the level of parathyroid hormone in the blood. iT IS a hormone secreted by the parathyroid glands that acts to maintain a constant concentration of calcium in the extracellular fluid. The hormone regulates absorption of calcium from the GI tract; mobilization of calcium from the bones; deposition of calcium in the bones; and excretion of calcium in the breast milk, feces, sweat, and urine. This test is used to help identify hyperparathyroidism, to find the cause of abnormal calcium levels, or to check the status of chronic kidney disease. PTH controls calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood.

This test is used to measure leutinizing hormone in blood. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is an important hormone produced in both men and women. It plays a role in puberty, menstruation, and fertility. A luteinizing hormone test measures the amount of this hormone in a sample of blood or urine. In women, LH regulates the menstrual cycle and egg release (ovulation). LH (leutinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) prompt the ovaries to begin producing the hormone estrogen, which causes a girl’s body to mature and prepare for menstruation. An acute rise of LH called the ‘LH surge’ triggers ovulation and development of the corpus luteum. Luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels rise and fall in sync during the monthly menstrual cycle. In men, LH stimulates the production of testosterone, which plays a role in sperm production.

TSH test measures the amount of thyroid stimulation hormone (TSH) in the blood, to screen for and help diagnose thyroid disorders and to monitor treatment of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism in kids. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland, a tiny organ located below the brain and behind the sinus cavities. It is part of the body's feedback system to maintain stable amounts of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood and to help control the rate at which the body uses energy. It is a part of Thyroid Profile. It is always advisable to go for complete profile, as level of each test in profile are considered while making decision on diagnosis as well as monitoring the treatment.

Progesterone Test

Blood Test
Reports in 1 Day
Serum progesterone test measures the level of progesterone in the blood. It is done to diagnose or rule out disorders associated with abnormal progesterone levels, usually related to infertility or recurrent miscarriage, an ectopic or failing pregnancy, abnormal uterine bleeding and to monitor   the health of a pregnancy and track ovulation. Progesterone is a hormone produced mainly in the ovaries. It plays a vital role in pregnancy. It makes the uterus ready for implantation of a fertilized egg. Progesterone levels rise and fall on a monthly basis. Levels elevate when the egg is released from the ovary and continue to rise with early pregnancy or fall to initiate menstruation. Abnormal levels of progesterone are seen in ectopic pregnancy and irregular or no menstrual periods. Increase level of progestrone is associated with ovarian cyst, ovarian cancer, congenital adrenal hyperplasia. low level of progesteron is seen in menopause and abnormal pregnancy.

Prolactin Test

Blood Test
Reports in 1 Day
The prolactin test measures the amount of prolactin in the blood. Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the anterior portion of the pituitary gland (sometimes called the "master gland"). Its role in the male has not been demonstrated, but in females, prolactin promotes lactation, or milk production, after childbirth. This test helps to check if prolactin levels are higher than normal, to monitor the progress of pituitary tumors, prolactinoma recurrence and to find the cause of Breast milk production that is not related to childbirth , impotence, infertility, irregular menstrual period. The prolactin test is used to diagnose pituitary dysfunction that might be caused by a tumor called an adenoma.

A testosterone test measures the amount of the male hormone, testosterone, in the blood in men and women. Testosterone levels are used to assess erectile dysfunction in men, impotence and infertility, premature and delayed puberty in men, appearance of masculine physical features in females and as a marker for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The test is also done to check for damage or disease of the testes, ovaries, adrenal or pituitary gland. In females free testosterone levels are more important in the diagnosis of PCOD and Infertility. It can also be used as a tumor marker for rare tumors of the ovary and testicle. Increased testosterone levels in males indicate testicular tumors, adrenal tumors, early puberty of unknown cause in boys and congenital hyperplasia. Increased testosterone levels in female indicate PCOS, ovarian or adrenal gland tumor and congenital adrenocortical hyperplasia.

A testosterone test measures the amount of the male hormone, testosterone, in the blood in men and women. Most of the testosterone in the blood is bound to a protein called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Testosterone that is not bound ("free" testosterone) may be checked if a man or a woman is having sexual problems. Free testosterone also may be tested for a person who has a condition that can change SHBG levels, such as hyperthyroidism or some types of kidney diseases. estosterone levels are used to assess erectile dysfunction in men, impotence and infertility, premature and delayed puberty in men, appearance of masculine physical features in females and as a marker for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

This test measures the level of protein Thyroglobulin (abbreviated Tg) in blood used primarily to detect well-differentiated thyroid cancers. Thyroglobulin is the protein precursor of thyroid hormone and is made by normal well differentiated benign thyroid cells or thyroid cancer cells. Although thyroglobulin levels may be elevated in patients with thyroid cancer, a large number of benign thyroid conditions may also be associated with elevated levels of thyroglobulin, hence an increased thyroglobulin alone in a patient not known to have thyroid cancer is not a sensitive or specific test for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The thyroglobulin test is primarily used as a tumor marker to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for thyroid cancer and to monitor for recurrence.

The ACTH test measures the level of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in the blood. ACTH stimulates the adrenal glands to release two hormones, cortisol and adrenaline, also known as epinephrine. These hormones help you respond to stress in a healthy way and support your immune system. The main function of ACTH is to regulate the steroid hormone cortisol. Cortisol is released by the adrenal gland. It regulates blood pressure and blood sugar.

T3 Test

Blood Test
Reports in 1 Day
Total Triiodothyronine is carried out to check for thyroid dysfunction. It is useful in diagnosing hyperthyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid overproduces hormones. Triiodothyronine(T3) is one of the hormones produced by the thyroid gland. The total T3 test is the most common type of T3 blood test that measures both the bound and free forms of T3 in the blood. T3 exists in two forms in the blood. The more abundant form, which is attached to proteins that help transport the hormone through the body and the less abundant form called T3 which circulates unattached. This test is performed as a part of an evaluation of thyroid function and measures the blood level of the hormone T3.

T4 Test

Blood Test
Reports in 1 Day
Total T4 is a test used to evaluate thyroid gland function, to help diagnose hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism and to screen for hypothyroidism in newborns. T4 is one of the hormones produced by the thyroid gland. In blood, T4 is either free (not bound) or protein- bound (bound to thyroxin- binding globulin). The T4 test measures the amount of thyroxin in the blood and helps control metabolism and growth. Total T4 test is used to diagnose hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
