Amylase Test

Amylase is an enzyme that helps break down carbohydrates in the body. The amylase test is used to measure the level of amylase in the blood, which can help diagnose and monitor conditions that affect the pancreas or salivary glands.

Testing method:

Diagnosis:
Elevated levels of amylase in the blood can be a sign of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas.
Elevated levels of amylase in the blood can also be caused by other conditions such as: mumps, cystic fibrosis, and kidney failure.

Reference range:
Normal values for amylase levels in the blood vary depending on the laboratory, but generally range from 30 to 110 units per liter (U/L).
