Frequency of Health Checks as per FSSAI Guidelines
Annual Health Check – As per Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011, all food handlers are required to undergo a comprehensive medical examination at least once a year to ensure they are free from any infectious, communicable, or contagious diseases.
Health Record Maintenance – FSSAI mandates that businesses maintain detailed health records of food handlers, including test reports and vaccination records, for at least two years.
Mandatory Vaccination Requirements
As per FSSAI guidelines, certain vaccinations are mandatory for food handlers to prevent the spread of communicable diseases:
Typhoid Vaccine – To protect against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella bacteria
Frequency: Annually
Tetanus Vaccine – To protect against tetanus, which can occur due to cuts or injuries
Frequency: Every six months
Hepatitis B Vaccine – To prevent transmission of hepatitis B virus
Frequency: A series of three injections at intervals of 0, 1, and 6 months, repeated every three years
