Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively. People with hyperhidrosis tend to have overactive sweat glands and sweat even when the temperature is low or when they are at rest, Hyperhidrosis usually affects the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and the underarms. Besides disrupting daily activities, hyperhidrosis can also cause social anxiety or discomfort.

    Causes & Symptoms
Nerves trigger the sweat glands which become overactive even when not needed. The problem worsens if a person is under stress or is nervous. This causes sweating in the palms and soles. If there is excessive sweating all over the body, it may be caused by a health factor, such as menopausal hot flashes, low blood sugar, overactive thyroid glands, or a heart attack.

    Consult a doctor if
    • Sweating disturbs your daily activities
    • You suddenly begin to sweat more than usual
    • You experience night sweats for no reason

Treatment varies, depending on the severity of the problem. In most cases, the doctor gives oral medication before suggesting invasive options such as surgery.

Tips to help you reduce sweating and body odor

    • Bath regularly to reduce the bacteria on the skin.

    • Dry the feet thoroughly after a bath. Microorganisms thrive in the damp spaces between the toes.

    • Use foot powders to help absorb sweat.

    • Wear shoes and socks made of natural materials. Shoes made of leather help prevent sweaty feet by allowing the feet to breathe.

    • Try not to wear the same pair of shoes the next since they may not dry completely overnight.

    • Wear cotton clothes that allow the skin to absorb sweat.

    • Relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation may help control stress that causes perspiration
