Stay Away from Gluten

Updated: Apr 15, 2026 Published: Jun 10, 2022 Medical Team 2 min read

Celiac disease occurs due to excess consumption of food containing gluten. Gluten is a kind of protein found in wheat and barley and foods such as bread, pasta, noodles, beer, cookies, muffins, cakes, white flour, fried foods, etc. Celiac disease is a digestive and autoimmune disorder that damages the lining of the small intestine. The damage makes it hard for the body to absorb nutrients, especially fat, calcium, and iron. It is important to avoid food with gluten because celiac disease can lead to iron deficiency, anemia, and osteoporosis.

Celiac disease is hereditary, it runs in families. Sometimes the disease is triggered or becomes active for the first time after surgery, childbirth, viral infection, or severe emotional stress.

    Symptoms

In addition to digestive problems, other signs and symptoms of Celiac disease include:

Gas and bloating, changes in bowel movements, weight loss, a feeling of tiredness for no reason, and weakness.

    How to avoid Celiac disease

    • Avoid excess consumption of food with gluten like bread, pasta, noodles, cookies, or products made with white flour (all-purpose flour), fried food, etc. Modifying the diet usually improves the condition within a few days.

    • Avoid drinking alcohol, especially beer.• Packaged foods should be avoided unless they’re labeled gluten-free.

    • Preventing Celiac disease is impossible due to its hereditary nature, but intestinal damage caused by the disease can be reversed and further harm avoided through a gluten-free diet.

    • A gluten-free diet should include plenty of fruits and vegetables, potatoes, rice, maize, corn, flax, nuts, meat, chicken, and fish.

    • Drink at least 2 glasses of water on an empty stomach. This will help in cleaning the

colon and aid in absorbing the nutrients.
