Why get tested?
Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells that are newly produced. The count helps to determine the percentage of reticulocytes in the blood and helps to understand bone marrow function. RBC’s are formed in the bone marrow where hematopoietic stem cells develop eventually forming reticulocytes and finally mature RBC’s
When to get tested?
It is prescribed when the doctor has to evaluate bone marrow’s ability to produce RBC’s. It is also recommended post-treatment follow-up for anemia and renal failure.
