Orbital Dermoid

Orbital dermoid is a rare congenital condition that is characterised by the presence of a cyst or tumor in the eye socket (orbit). The cyst or tumor contains a variety of tissues, including skin, hair, and fat. It can occur in one or both eyes.

Symptoms of orbital dermoid can vary depending on the size and location of the cyst or tumor. Some common symptoms include swelling or bulging of the eye, vision changes, and eye pain. In some cases, the cyst or tumor may not cause any symptoms at all.

Diagnosis of orbital dermoid typically begins with a physical examination of the eye, which may be followed by imaging tests such as an MRI or CT scan. A biopsy may also be performed to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment for orbital dermoid typically involves surgery to remove the cyst or tumor. The type of surgery will depend on the size and location of the cyst or tumor, as well as the patient’s overall health. In some cases, radiation therapy may be used to shrink the cyst or tumor before surgery.

Prevention of orbital dermoid is not possible as it is a congenital condition, meaning it is present at birth. However, early detection and treatment can help prevent complications from the cyst or tumor.

There is no correlation between diet, exercise or general health & wellness and the development of Orbital Dermoid.
